If you’ve been keeping up with my kitchen color series, then you know the two most recent shopping guides were hues of blue and all white everything. With Memorial Day just passing and 4th of July on the way, it just made perfect sense (to me at least) to close out the American flag trifecta of kitchen decor. So here we are folks — a red kitchen accessories shopping guide!
Read MoreWood is a great transitional option, especially in the kitchen, as it denotes the warmth of winter decor but also (depending on the finish) can also reflect the “hominess” of spring. So for my latest (and first of 2020) installment of my kitchen color guide, let’s shop some wood!
Read MoreWe're back with another installation of the kitchen color series! And I figured what better color to do during the winter than the cool hues of blue. If you read my High Point Market trends forecast from Fall 2018 market, then you know that one of the color families that was very prevalent at market was denim blue hues. We’ve got some navy, some royal, some aqua…a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
Read MoreThe all white kitchen trend is one that every season people wonder if it’s over. But here’s the thing — there is more than one way to achieve an “all white kitchen” look. If the trend of all white everything is one that you’re holding on to with both hands and/or have secretly been coveting for your own home, you can totes get your wish without doing a complete overhaul of your cabinets and counters. For this installment of my kitchen color guide series we’re tackling the ever so popular (or hated) white on white!
Read MoreThis year blush pink as definitely become a growing trend in fashion & home decor, serving almost as neutral and getting paired with lots of metal tones and/or dark dramatic hues. But despite, it's growing popularity, it's definitely one of those colors that is a kitchen challenge — how do you do it without dredging up old school kitchen nostalgia?
Read MoreCopper (really metallic tones) have become increasingly popular in design and is one of the easier ways to really jazz up your decor; however, done incorrectly, you can go all the way wrong.
So I've put together 20 of my favorite copper kitchen finds for your shopping pleasure.
You're welcome!
Read MoreOne of my favorite presentation styles as a merchandiser was color blocking but specifically using ROYGBIV to display merchandise. What’s ROYGBIV? ROYGBIV is an acronym for Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet — aka the rainbow. With June being LGBT Pride Month, I have been reminded of how a rainbow — ROYGBIV — can be a fun and vibrant addition to any space! Since shopping Amazon is one of my favorite past times here are my ROYGBIV inspired finds for the entire home.
Read MoreOne things that has been a priority for me in this space is having a fitness area. I have resolved that I won't be returning to the gym in the near (or even distant) future but I also can't let my hesitation/distrust of public gyms to cripple my fitness journey. In the past year, my health habits have tanked, specifically my physical health, and so I needed to give myself a space - even a small one - to comfortably workout.
To accomplish this, I made a few considerations -
my preferred type of workouts
my workout schedule
my equipment storage when not in use
So where does that leave me?
Read MoreAfter we moved in last Fall, we spent the next couple of months tackling a number of projects. Aside from a crippling case of creative fatigue, it also shown a light on all the many ways we needed to improve the least designed part of the house: the garage.
Read MoreLast week I shared my design intentions for the flex lounge... and I say intentions because things are always liable to change...
In starting this project, I've already resolved to spend as little as possible, even resisting the urge to buy all the organizing things is harder than you'd imagine. There are things I need and then there are the things that I want. My very rough draft shopping list includes -
• a new desk for more surface area
• a new ergonomic desk chair
• a proper place for our printer (and maybe even a new printer eventually)
• wall storage for the mini
• contained storage for fitness equipment
• paper organization
And within the aforementioned list, things get a bit more detailed and itemized... a wishlist of sorts depending on what direction the design ends up taking.
Read MoreMy Amazon purchases during Q3 were small and lifestyle in most cases... and better said, they were small but mighty — purchases that would enhance our day to day behaviors in some small way...
Read MoreSix months of Amazon shopping and this might be my fav haul yet. Last month I finally got around to shopping the final details for our kitchen — check out my kitchen essentials & accessories post — and a lot of that shopping happened on Amazon. I also took advantage of the season change to grab a few goodies for the warmer months.
Read MoreIf you read my all black kitchen accessories shopping post, then you know I shopped a lot of black to complete the kitchen design. For the appliances I wanted to camouflage the appliances with the black cabinets and create a sleek continuity, where there'd be contrast with the white cabinets.
Read MoreIf you know even a little bit of my shopping habits then you already know two of my favorite go to retailers for all the things are Target and Amazon…and if you don’t know my fav retailers, you can go ahead and download my list of fav retailers here.
I like to think I share equal parts of my heart for Target and Amazon — I am a literal card carrying Target REDcard holder and have been an Amazon Prime member for more years than I can remember. So when I heard the news that Target was coming out with Target Deal Days, I was instantly excited — deeper discounts than their usual deals? SIGN. ME. UP!
These new deal days are in DIRECT competition with Amazon’s Prime Day, also July 15th and 16th. Well played Target, well played.
While the word “competition” tends to denote something negative, I can’t think of anything better than this! So being the self-appointed shopping connoisseur that I am, I’m gonna simplify this for you so that you can get the most bang for your browsing buck for those two days of deals.
Read MoreWhen we bought the house, we were blessed with a magnificent yard that was clearly loved. I shared all my outdoor design musings, which is all about furnishings & decor, but not the landscape. Since the first time I saw the yard, I knew I'd have my work cut out for me. Despite the anticipated work, I found myself excited to learn and to grow... pun intended. From being able to identify the plants in our yard to learning how to care for them, it's been a crash course in landscaping. The best part about learning something new — shopping!
Read MoreAnother month down y’all and I have to admit that I am doing a lot less shopping than I anticipated. Don’t get me wrong — I’m still shopping! What I’m saying is I thought I’d be doing a lot more than I actually am…and it does still feel like a lot because there seem to be daily deliveries here at the hygge ranch but alas… May was def a lighter load than I thought it’d be.
Read MoreA lifetime of rearranging my spaces + helping other people with theirs taught me that no matter how beautifully designed a space, it's all for naught if not organization. The pretty facade will fade without organized systems in place. I wanted to create designs that my clients could sustain.
I don't do client work anymore but I apply those same principles to the content I create & the how I design my own home... which is also why The Container Store has long been one of my favorite shopping destinations for all things storage & organization for every nook & cranny of our home... and long before buying house.
