Shop With Me: Decorating With Natural Weaves

Y’all know I love me some hygge right? And one of my favorite elements of hygge design is the use of natural elements to create a design that feels layered with warmth and texture and character.

Some popular weaves and textures are raffia, rattan, and jute — elements that can be (and often are) easily mixed up with one another — and that’s just scratching the surface! When it comes to wanting to add that earthy feel to your space, you can also consider options like water hyacinth, rush, and grasscloth.

Decoding the precise differences between the different options would require a whole different post, and ain’t nobody got time for that. LOL. Today, we’re going shopping — how can you bring in these cozy elements into your home through different furnishings and decorative elements?

Shop The Design: Brooklyn, NY Studio Makeover

Where some people tend to get overwhelming and tap out, is where I just get started. I love the research that goes into finding the right pieces to fit the parameters of any projects — size, cost, timeframe, etc. Because I enjoy digging around the interwebs for product so much, I forget how many of you actually hate the whole things — like loathe it. Needless to say, so many of you messaged me asking about where to find so many of the items from my latest One Room Challenge reveal. Over on my Instagram, I also had you guys guess what you thought the room totaled, and while majority voted correctly, a large amount of you were also about $1000 to $1500 short. That’s when I knew I had to dedicate a separate post to just the shopping list.

Airbnb Essentials To Create A Great Guest Experience

When this whole Airbnb business model became a thing, I was very skeptical about staying in someone else’s home. The way a host prepares an Airbnb is no different than the way a host would prepare a guest bedroom…or at least it shouldn’t be. So what makes a great Airbnb?

20 Books to Help You Launch & Propel Your Interior Design Business

We’ve all heard the debates on whether or not you should go to school & get formally trained as a designers, or if being self-taught will suffice. While I can’t answer that for anyone but myself, what I can say is that no matter which path you choose, you never really stop learning.

A lot of that learning can come by way of doing — there’s no substitute for experience — but some of that learning you have to actively pursue, whether it’s taking CEU courses, watching webinars, listening to podcasts, or good ol fashioned books!

IKEA's 2018 Winter Sale Is Here!

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” Word of IKEA’s annual post-holiday winter sale hit the interwebs & I was all over it, and I gotta say — it’s a good one!Now that the fanfare of Christmas shopping is somewhat winding down, if you’ve been putting off updating your home, this is one sale you’re going to want to get into for yourself. In addition to a whole gaggle of new low prices (like actual pricing, and not just a sale) all over the site, select items are as far up to 50% off online. While you can definitely take advantage of the savings online — which is my fav way to shop — I can guarantee, that you’re really gonna get your money’s worth by actually getting in the car & heading to your local store!

Valentine's Day Date Night Tablescaping

It’s that wonderful time of year where getting a restaurant reservation is harder than trying to get a toddler to bed on time.

I’ve never been one to “celebrate” Valentine’s Day for a myriad of reasons but especially because of the crowds — everyone’s outside with their red dresses, red ties, and red roses clamoring for a spot at a “romantic” restaurant.

How is yelling over dozens of other patrons just for a glass of over even remotely romantic?!

Call me old fashioned but I’d much rather celebrate my love in the quiet, intimate setting of my home. There’s no wait time, no mandatory gratuity, and no dress code.

So this year, whether you’re “celebrating” with your significant other over a candlelit dinner or with your fav besties over a casual brunch, I challenge you to trade in the public fanfare for an at home meal... and that starts with fabulous tablescaping!

Rose Gold vs Copper vs Gold

Although I'm not against mixing metals, as they've grown in popularity, I've noticed people using them haphazardly without any regard for how they'll play off of one another. This has been especially the case when it comes to rose gold, copper, and gold. Albeit similar, these are all very distinct metals, and when used in decor, these distinctions can make or break a design. Use correctly, they can absolutely elevate a design to something elegant and timeless; however, done incorrectly, and it'll be a piping hot mess!

Target's Pillowfort Collection

Whenever I'm in Target, I make a point of walking by the home section, even if what I'm there for as nothing to do with home, much to the chagrin of my husband. My local target has a fairly large home section smack in the middle of everything so that makes it easy, and one of the feature displays is this amazing teepee by Pillowfort. Every time I see it I get all the feels and I start imagining my daughter in her "big girl" room (and of course I start designing said room in my head, with this teepee).
